Pixel Perfect and color outlines: cleaning unwanted single pixels
Compare detail preservation and removal, outline drawing, color lines, darkness and alpha threshold as separate controls.
When an added border is not enough
Drawing around a result can leave spikes in its silhouette and irregular internal color boundaries untouched. Compare boundary cleanup separately from adding a line. Inspect uneven stair steps on a round head or shoulder at both zoomed and actual size.
Begin with Preserve detail
This is the default Pixel Perfect mode. It cleans boundaries while retaining small features. Compare Remove detail when stronger cleanup is needed, but check hair tips, tiny eyes and weapon ends. The algorithm uses nearby pixels; you still decide which single pixel defines the character.
Turn off drawing to inspect cleanup alone
Both modes allow Draw outline to be disabled. This reveals whether the boundary was actually cleaned or simply appears stronger behind a new line. Compare Silhouette for outer-shape emphasis and Color edges when interior color changes should be outlined too.
Maintain color relationships with color outlining
Color outlining chooses darker relatives of the interior colors. Defaults are 25% darkness and no light direction. Compare it when the same black line feels awkward on both pale skin and dark hair. A solid-color option remains available for a uniform style.
Alpha threshold decides which faint pixels count
The default is 120. Raising it can exclude faint, partly transparent edges; lowering it can include more of them. It is separate from outline darkness and image brightness. Inspect translucent hair and accessories for broken edges after a change.
Change one control at a time
Compare the two cleanup modes first, then outline drawing, color mode, darkness and alpha threshold. For animation, check edge stability during playback as well as in a still frame. Export the complete sheet after reviewing all poses, and refine intentional small features in Editor where needed.
